Today I learned that the Dhobi's are a part of the untouchables in the caste system, but they were the highest in the untouchables, so they were treated well.
When we first entered Dhobi Ghat they took us straight to the donkeys which they used to transport the clothes to the customers. They also have machines they use to wash and to dry clothes, so they do not only do it by hand.
In Dhobi Ghat I rinsed and folded clothes, which was the most fun, especially the rinsing even though my arm is going to hurt when I am going wake up tomorrow. I also went to a Dhobi’s house; it looked very modern, but not very spacious.
If I had this job I would be very tired because I have to work from morning to night. I think washing the old way is more eco-friendly because they recycle water, so there is no water wasted. But when we use the washing machine, the water is wasted and it goes into the sewer with all the bleach and chemicals; it is not god for the environment.
