Today we went to Shathayu Ayurvedic Retreat. Over there we did trekking, yoga, and at the end we planted a plant. There were two groups. One did trekking first and then yoga. The other group did yoga and then did trekking, both the groups planted the plants last. In yoga, we learned different animal poses, the meaning of yoga and we did a race in the 'turkey' pose. In trekking we just trekked but the hill was really steep so it took a lot of energy. At the top there were tiny ponds/streams and the students took selfies with teachers and their friends. Going down was easy but it was really slippery. At the end we planted our own plants with a partner, we also got to chain our names to the plant. Finally after the planting they gave us food. Then we finally went in the buses. I think the most fun part of the project was going down hill because it was slippery and it was less tiring. The least enjoyable part was going up hill because it was so steep and it was so tiring. The most thing I learned was yoga and it’s posses. I think the most I worked my best on was going up hill so I wouldn’t trip of fall.
Today in CL, we went to a village to work on pottery. We learned a lot about things we did not know. Here I will tell you all about the trip to the Pottery village.
There are 3 types of clay that we used in today’s pottery. It is the red clay, yellow clay, and the black clay. We learned that the red clay is usually used for small pots and the black is used for making big ones. They explained that the people uses the yellow clay for mixing.
After the clay is made, we make the pots. The people said that about 1000 to 1500 of pots are made but only 100 to 150 of them are turned out right because the burning part is a very complicated process. In that process, the pots might burn or crack. But the pots that are not sold or used in homes are not thrown away. They are used to help burn other new pots that are ready to burn.
We also found that there was a lot of eucalyptus trees around. The people explained that the eucalyptus leaves are good materials to use when burning. They said that they used the eucalyptus leaves to burn the pots. I think that is a good idea because we don’t use fossil fuel.
After that, we made our own pots. They all turned out beautiful and each and every one of them was unique in their own way. It was very fascinating to see the pots being made. The process took some time, but I think it was worth it.
After we ate lunch, we had a look at the things they made out with clay. There was accessories, little statues of gods, and even a bell. It was amazing the way the tiny pieces were all connected together for the statues.
Lastly, we said goodbye to the people that helped us today and went back to CIS
Today in CL we went to the Church Street. Which was really long street which we could get awesome photos. We had one and a half hour to take good photos.
It was colorful and enjoyable. There were little colorful statues on the street. Except for that there was colorful walls and a colorful train station. The train station was covered with so many different shapes and designs on it. First we didn’t even understand that it was a train station! Half an hour later we were already tired so we went to Starbucks and we had our milkshakes, which was so fun. But we only stayed there about 20 minuets and so we went back to take some more pictures. Mr.Page showed us some different kinds of techniques to take great photos and so we tried. Even tho it wasn’t good as his photos we tried our best.
At the end of the day we went back to the bus and we went to school. Before we leave the bus, we thanked to our teachers Mr.Page and Mr.Jeremy for everything they did for us in CL.
Hello everyone! On Friday, 24 of November, we did lots of fun things! The first thing we did was first aid and I learned the following phone numbers:
The next thing we did was the fire safety. First we watched a video of how to put out a fire and then ... we extinguished a fire!!! It was lots of fun, but it was smelly!
After break we prepared the posters and tables for the CL presentations coming later in the afternoon. Everyone had a different topic to present about. Quinn, Maxime and I did yoga. It was fun! Maxime and I actually did a little bit of yoga while preparing.
We also practiced the Qualopolick play that we showed to parents later. It was so funny watching Forrest and Nuha fighting!
After we went to lunch, but some people didn’t finish doing there posters, so they were finishing them up during that time.
All the parents came to see our amazing, hilarious, funny plays! After all the amazing plays from all of the 6 graders, we presented our presentations of all the activities we did during the CL week. Best part - Nuha made cookies and they were so good and everyone wanted at least one cookie!
Everyone enjoyed this Friday and the whole week!
The 22nd of November was our 3rd CL day on campus. The first activity we did was yoga. We learned about different asanas such as the surya namaskar which consists of 17 different moves. It was interesting, yet challenging, as some of the moves required flexibility. We also did breathing exercises and balancing techniques. I enjoyed the yoga as it was relaxing.
Then we divided ourselves into two groups. One group of children went to the animal shelter and learned how to click great photos with Mr. Page. I was in the other group and we were going to cook. We had a budget of ₹500 in which we had to buy the ingredients from the More mega store to create our dishes. We all shopped together in the store and when we came back to school, we got two hours to make our dishes. We were informed that the main ingredient to be incorporate into our dishes were carrots.
We formed four sub groups. My group made yummy white sauce pasta, a side of potato and carrot salad with a Greek yogurt dressing and an orange non-alcoholic mojito. The second group made delicious chicken with a side of salad. The third group created a scrumptious mac-n-cheese. The last group cooked mouth watering baked cookies and carrot juice. We enjoyed making our dishes in spite of facing some hiccups along the way.
The judges for our dishes were Mr. King, Ms. Tamara and Mr. Kells. Although we were not there to see Mr. Kells try our dishes, we hope he liked them. Mr. King and Ms. Tamara enjoyed our dishes and said that they were all exquisite.
At the end of the day we had journaling time to self-evaluate and reflect on our day. So far I’ve been enjoying all the CL activities and am looking forward to more activities.
Our first activity was yoga. It was really fun because we were all laughing and having fun. We did a lot of different moves like the surya namaskar, etc..
Our second activity was the Annadana farm. The farm was really cool as we saw different types of vegetables and we learned how to make potting soil. They showed us how to plant the plants into the soil. We learned about many different species of vegetables. For example, we learned that there are 6,000 different varieties of tomatoes.
Our next activity was our homeroom activities so I did composting which was a lot of fun. We saw how we had made compost over the last few weeks. And now the butterfly garden group is using our compost to plant nectar plants for the butterflies to enjoy.
Our next and final activity of the day was Aqua Zumba, which I think most of us enjoyed the most. It was a lot of fun as we were all in the pool, there was loud music, all of us were dancing in the water.
It was amazing!
Our first activity was jiu jitsu with Mr. Rohit and Mr. Korey. Jiu-jitsu is like karate, kong fu ... where you learn to punch, kick and defend yourself. I had fun learning how to do it, but it was a little awkward doing it in front of the whole class. But I think it will be helpful if I ever get attacked or something like that.
After that we went to the Maker Space with ms. Shefali. The activity was who am I. We had to choose a silhouette and fill it with a type of stickers which represents us or that we like. I used stickers like a soccer ball because I like soccer. I also choose a sticker of the Netherlands because i’m from there, a dog because I have a dog, a snowman because I like snow...
It was fun to do but it was a little annoying because the stickers kept moving and turning when I didn’t want it to. It was cool to see what everyone else did.
After lunch we went and did things with 3d pens. First we had to write our initials with the pen. If we finished we had to make a triangular based pyramid. It was very hard to make them because the plastic didn’t come out in a straight line, so you had to control it. Many people’s pens didn’t work. I had fun during this activity because I got to try writing with a 3d pen which I had done only once before.
Then we went to growth mindset. We watched a video where a man tried to fit three big rocks, jar of pebbles and a jar of sand in one bowl. He didn't manage to do it when he started with sand. But he did succeed when he started with rocks. We learned that rocks are important things in life, pebbles - less important, and sand - meaningless things. Then we got pictures of rocks, pebbles and sand and we had to write under the rock what is important to us, under the pebble we wrote what is a little less important and under the sand we wrote what isn’t really important to us. Then we had to write 7 things that annoy us and write our solutions so we can be more important.
