For Pookalam making my group made a doughnut design with sprinkles and glaze. We went to a local flower market and got flowers of all different colours from there. The flowers are got from farms on the outskirts of Bangalore. The florists sell about 500 kgs of flowers per day. After we bought flowers, Ms.Lakshmi and Ms. Beena bought us cake and we ate happily on the way to school.
We created our own designs, chose colors, split up the work, and arranged our final Pookalam!
Wood string art:
For wood string art we had to use a piece of wood to make the first letter of our names. First we had to make our wood smooth and free of wood poking out so we wouldn’t get hurt. Next we had to draw our letter and then hammer nails on our drawing. I hit my thumb a lot when I was doing this but it was so much fun. Overall wood string art was really fun.
On March 15 grade 6 CL On- Campus students were buzzing with excitement. It was going to be a fun day! Our bus ride was extra long since we couldn’t find the school. We went to a government school called Diya Ghar to play with the kids and do activities. When we got there, the boys all went into the kitchen to the prepare the juice. Us girls sang nursery rhymes with the kids. When the girls went to make the fruit ready it was the boys’ turn to play with the kids. It was funny since the boys said that since they were guys they weren’t so good at hanging out with kids!
We served the juice and fruit and started our first activity: coloring mandalas. The kids got printed mandalas and colored them with markers, crayons, and oil pastels. I think the kids really enjoyed this activity as they were being creative with the colors and designs. Then all of grade 6 sang songs and played games with the kids.
Even though it wasn’t part of the trip, when we got back to school we had a lot of fun that I thought I would share. We played hide- and- seek, 7 up, dead ant tag, and stuck in the mud. All these games helped us to bond more and become more comfortable with each other. The huge advantage of having only 20 students was that we were all able to get to know each other and learn things about ourselves and others along the way.
Altogether, I think this CL week was really fun! Friday was my last full school day at CIS so it was an awesome ending experience. It was sad to end the week and go back to classes, but I guess it had to happen eventually.
