With exams finished, we began our final week of CL for this year.
With a variety of activities available to us, we were divided into smaller groups. I was in the group that was assigned to decorate a fish tank and gemstone case. We were super excited about our project and began working on it immediately. We came up with many ideas and finally decided what we wanted our fish tank to look like.
Next, the girls in the group began cleaning out the tank with toothpaste, yes toothpaste !Toothpaste helps to get rid of the white marks on the side of the glass faster than most other substances. It was tiring work, scrubbing all the stains away, and by the end of it we were all soaked as we kept on spilling water on each other. Meanwhile, the boys began cleaning the dirt from the pebbles which we will later be using in the tank. It was necessary to clean out the dirt from the pebbles, so the fish wouldn't get ill from swimming in contaminated water. Following this, we researched on different gemstones, we planned using in the fish tank.
We then went to the Elementary school Sand Pit, to collect a bucket of sand. Most of us began playing with the shovels and buckets there just like we did when we were younger. After this we got back to working on our project As the fish tank was split into two halves, we shoveled some of the pebbles into one section. However we ran into a problem with the other half. The drainage system had leak.
Our Essential Question for the day was ' How does using our hands instead of machines help us ?'
I think using our hands is beneficial as machines can malfunction, and cause disasters. If we hadn't used our hands to clean out the dirt from the pebbles and make sure it was clean, the fish would have eventually died. A machine will not always work as efficiently and effectively as a human.
Our second Essential Question was ' How can I be safe while doing my activity today ?'. I think it is important to have a safe environment while working and this can be done by using the proper equipments and by having adult supervision and guidance. While cleaning the fish tank, we wore gloves, as the chemicals in the toothpaste could be harmful to our hands.
Even though today was a lot of hard work and research, I still found it fun and enjoyable and can't wait to see the finished fish tank!
I didn't think that CL Day 2 could be any better than Day 1, but I was proven wrong.
We started off Day 2 by conducting interviews of the other members in our group on how they felt about the previous days activity. Most of the group members said that they really enjoyed the activity and the feedback was positive .
Following that, we got back to working on our projects. Since the leak in the fish tank was fixed, we were now able to fill that half with sand. We then leveled it out and it felt like we had made a playground for the fish ! Next, we poured cups of water on top of the sand. My friends and I had to make repeated trips to the bathroom, to get water to fill the fish tank. Then, Mr. Robert kindly gave us a few items to put in our fish tank like algae, a tub full of stones and shells and even some small water snails. We went back to the fish tank and added all the above items to it. It looked super cool, and showed that our hard work payed off. Now the only thing missing were the fish !
Today CL day was very educative and I learnt a lot, and I can't wait to see what's in store for us tomorrow !
